It would be easy to say that Rascal Flatts are deserting their twangy roots for a more palatable pop sound on this album. But listen closely and you'll find that they're really pushing the formulaic boundaries of commercial country further outward. And if you really miss the heartland sound, just listen to "Backwards." It's so country that Toby Keith could have written it.
